How can I immigrate to Belize? Our beautiful country has a tropical climate, pristine beaches, and a rich cultural history. If you’re thinking about moving to Belize, there are some things you need to know about the immigration process.

BELIZE VISA – HOW CAN I IMMIGRATE TO BELIZE

First and foremost, you might need a visa. No visa is required if you are a citizen of the British Commonwealth (except India), the United States, CARICOM, Mexico, Austria, Costa Rica, or any EU country.

Citizens of all other countries require a visa. A visitor’s visa can be acquired for a fee from a Belizean consulate or embassy.

There are a few exceptions. Citizens of Pakistan, Bolivia, Colombia, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Angola, India, Cuba, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Libya, Peru, South Africa, and CIS countries must obtain prior authorization from the Belize Immigration Department to enter the country.

If you wish to remain in Belize for longer than 30 days while in the country, you may apply for an extension of your visitor’s visa at any of the country’s immigration offices.

You can apply for permanent residence after establishing legal residence in Belize for a minimum of 12 months. Depending on your nationality, the fee for permanent residency ranges from $187 to $1,562.

BELIZE RESIDENCY

To apply, you’ll need to submit the following documents:

  • Proof of legal residence in Belize for a period of twelve months, such as a passport with visa extensions;
  • An immigration processing fee, which varies by nationality and ranges from $262 to $1,499;
  • Police record for you and all your family members;
  • A marriage certificate (if applicable);
  • An income tax return;
  • A copy of your work permit (if you are working in Belize);
  • Your spouse’s birth certificate;
  • Local bank’s statement;
  • A health certificate for you and your family members, including HIV test;
  • Three passport-sized photos of you and any family members, taken within the last 6 months;
  • Proof that you own land in Belize

BELIZE CITIZENSHIP

After five years in Belize, you may be eligible to apply for Belizean citizenship. You can apply for citizenship if you have a permanent residence certificate or have lived in Belize for five years, according to the Belize Nationality Act of 1981. There is also a provision for minors to be registered alongside the applicant.

While the process of immigrating to Belize can be complicated, the opportunity to live in such a beautiful and unique country is well worth the effort.

Keep in mind that there may be additional requirements or restrictions on immigration to Belize, so consult with a lawyer or immigration professional to ensure you have all of the necessary information and documents.

As you plan your move to Belize, keep the cost of living, access to amenities and activities, and cultural differences in mind. You can use careful planning and a positive attitude to comply with the Belize immigration process. This will allow you to become a permanent resident and, eventually, a citizen of Belize within 5 years.
